High Precision Filling and Formulation, Process Control à la carte

The design of a weighing system for the filling and formulation of many different products in different quantities can become a real challenge, particularly when this system shall be able to operate manually and automatically and to handle large amounts of data for recording and reporting purposes. Although challenging, theses requirements can be matched thanks to the advanced features available in the industrial weighing terminal IND780. DuPont Khimprom in Russia opted for this technology to fulfill all their requirements.
DuPont is one of the largest producers of crop protection products in the world. In December 1997 representatives of the Russian company Khimprom and DuPont Overseas Operations Inc. agreed upon the foundation of DuPont Khimprom in Novocheboksarsk, Russia. The purpose of this foundation was to create high-quality crop-protecting agents at the lowest production cost and with due attention to safety, health protection and the environment. DuPont has been continuously investing in the modernization of this plant.

DuPont Khimprom required a solution for efficient high precision filling plus customized software for dosage and formulation process control. Their requirements were challenging and specific:
  1. Management of recipes and ingredients
  2. Providing process guidance to the operators via clear instructions prompting
  3. Control of up to 10 valves for automatic and semi-automatic operation
  4. High precision dosage without reduction of filling speed
  5. Recording of large amount of information for each drum filled to permit tracking and tracing of many different parameters
  6. Narrow tolerance on a wide weighing range from very small to large quantities.
METTLER TOLEDO delivered a weighing system including high resolution platform scales KCC150s, a weighing terminal IND780 with TaskExpert and ARM100 digital Input/Output modules.

What About Hazardous Environments?

Many customers of the chemical and petrochemical industries often have to reduce their expectations in order to comply with the requirements of hazard protection (ATEX, NEC, CEC, etc.). This is not a problem with METTLER TOLEDO’s range of industrial terminals and platforms.

The IND780 designed to operate with up to 4 weighing platforms is certified for application in hazardous environment classified to Zone 2/22 and Div. 2.

For the use with single weighing platforms, the IND560 line of terminals offers the same functionality and offers certifications for hazardous areas classified to Zone 1/21 and Div.1 (IND560x) and Zone 2/22 and Div.2 (IND560).

The platforms of the K-series are certified for Zone 2/22, and the Kx-T4 line for applications in Zone 1/21 and Div.1.
